چکیده

We report on a series of measurements of the transverse wakefield from tapered collimators. The collimators were designed to principally present a geometric impedance to the beam, and to minimize impedances from resistivity or surface features; in addition, the geometries of the collimators were selected to permit examination of the scaling behavior of the wakefield due to collimator taper angle and minimum gap size. We present the measured near-center wakefields of the collimators, as well as the effect of bunch-length variation. The measurements are compared to analytic models and MAFIA

Numerical Calculations of Short-range Wakefields of Collimators

The performance of future linear colliders are limited by the effect of short-range collimator wakefields on the beam. The beam quality is sensitive to the positioning of collimators at the end of the linac. The determination of collimator wakefields has been difficult, largely because of the scarcity of measurement data, and of the limitation of applicability of analytical results to realistic...

TESLA Report 2003-18 NUMERICAL CALCULATION OF SMALL-ANGLE COLLIMATOR WAKEFIELDS FOR SHORT BUNCHES

Collimators are used to eliminate halo particles from the beam. To relax the wakefield effects a gradual transition from a large to a small aperture is used. However, the existing computer codes face severe problems for long tapered transitions. Two main sources of the problems are the grid dispersion and the staircase geometry approximation. Using recently developed time domain numerical appro...

Wakefield Calculations for 3 D Collimators ∗

Using a recently developed time domain numerical approach we calculate the short-range geometric wakefields of 3D collimators and compare with analytical models. We find, in the diffractive regime, that the transverse mode kick factor can be approximated from the change in field energy between the beam pipe and the collimator if the collimator is long, or using a “field clipping” estimate if it...

Near-wall Wakefields for Optimized Geometry of Ttf 2 Collimator

Wakefields excited in the small aperture collimators may damage the beam. As pointed out by K. Bane and P. Morton the wakefields can be reduced considerably by tapering the steps and using the “step+taper” collimator geometry. The optimisation of this kind of geometry for TTF 2 collimators with different apertures is carried out in the paper. For the optimal geometries the nonlinear near-wall w...
